Baltic Gas Pipeline Damage: Chinese Ship's Anchor Suspected

Finnish police believe that a Chinese container ship, the Newnew Polar Bear, caused damage to the Balticconnector gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia when its anchor dislodged and ruptured the pipeline. The Finnish navy retrieved an anchor from the location of the incident, and investigators are determining if it belongs to the Chinese vessel. The focus of the investigation is to establish if the damage was intentional, unintentional, or due to "bad seafaring." The Chinese foreign ministry has requested a fair and comprehensive investigation, stating that the vessel was operating normally at the time. Repairs to the pipeline are estimated to last until at least the end of April.
