BRICS Nations Unite to Strengthen Global Development Bloc

The expansion of the BRICS group, currently consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, is facing last-minute hurdles as divisions persist among the leaders at the summit in Johannesburg. While all BRICS members publicly support the bloc's growth, there are disagreements over the extent and speed of expansion. China and Russia are pushing for an expanded BRICS to challenge Western dominance, while Brazil and India have been forging closer ties with the West. More than 40 countries have expressed interest in joining BRICS, with 22 formally requesting admission. However, the admission criteria proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including not being the target of international sanctions and a minimum per capita GDP requirement, have caused delays and disagreements.
