International Court of Justice: Four Nations Sue Iran for Downed Plane

Canada, Sweden, Ukraine, and the UK have launched a case against Iran at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over the shooting-down of a Ukrainian passenger plane in January 2020. The countries accuse Iran of failing to prevent the offense, conducting an impartial investigation, and providing full reparation to the victims' families. Iran had previously admitted that its paramilitary Revolutionary Guard mistakenly shot down the plane, but the countries filing the case called the subsequent prosecution a "sham and opaque trial." Iran has also filed a case against Canada, accusing it of flouting state immunity.
