International Maritime Protection Force Formed to Safeguard Red Sea Shipping Amidst Houthi Threats

The United States, along with several other nations, has announced the creation of a new international maritime protection force called Operation Prosperity Guardian to safeguard ships transiting the Red Sea from attacks by Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen. The attacks, which have damaged vessels, have prompted shipping companies to halt operations in the area. The force will provide umbrella protection to commercial vessels in the region, with the participation of countries such as the United Kingdom, Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Seychelles, and Spain. China, despite having warships in the region, has not responded to previous calls for assistance. The United States has also called on the United Nations Security Council to take action against the attacks.
