Navigating the Path to Peace: Insights from Cambodia to Palestine

As the Israeli invasion of Gaza continues, there is a need for a new approach to break the cycle of violence between Israel and Palestine. Drawing lessons from Cambodia's transition to democracy, the authors propose the establishment of a four-year multinational transitional authority led by the US and Arab countries, with significant Palestinian input. This authority would provide stability, facilitate humanitarian aid, establish the rule of law, and create a new public administration in the West Bank and Gaza. Depending on its success, power would be handed over to a new Palestinian government, with elections and the transfer of power being the outcome of the transitional authority. This approach could create an internationally endorsed process that incentivizes compromises and offers the possibility of permanent peace in the Middle East.
