US Vetoes Security Council Resolutions on Israel-Gaza Crisis and Hamas Attacks

The United States has vetoed a UN Security Council resolution that called for "humanitarian pauses" to deliver aid to Gaza. The resolution, led by Brazil, received support from 12 out of 15 Council members, but was vetoed by the US. Russia's proposed amendments for an immediate ceasefire and condemnation of attacks against civilians were also rejected. The US justified its veto by stating that the resolution did not mention Israel's right to self-defense. The UK abstained from the resolution, citing the need for clarity on Israel's right to self-defense and Hamas' use of human shields. This is the second failed attempt by the Security Council to address the Israel-Gaza crisis.
