Labor Unrest Escalates as UAW Demands Progress in Auto Plant Negotiations

The United Auto Workers (UAW) union has threatened to strike at additional General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis plants if "serious progress" is not made in negotiations by noon ET on Friday. This comes after the union initiated targeted strikes at assembly plants for the "Big Three" automakers, affecting around 12,700 workers. UAW President Shawn Fain stated that the new deadline is September 22nd and emphasized that the union will not wait or "mess around." The strikes, referred to as "stand-up strikes," are part of the union's unconventional negotiation strategy, and the union plans to expand the work stoppages if negotiations do not advance satisfactorily.
