Tragic Aircraft Crash in Australia Claims Lives of 3 US Marines, Injures 20

Three U.S. Marines were killed and 20 others injured when a Marine Corps aircraft, a Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey, crashed during a training exercise in Australia. The aircraft was carrying 23 Marines when it crashed on Melville Island. The cause of the crash is currently unknown. This incident adds to the history of accidents involving the Osprey, with 16 deaths in five crashes since 2012. The training exercise, involving troops from the United States, Australia, Indonesia, Philippines, and East Timor, is scheduled to end on September 7.
