Cyclone Mocha Devastates Myanmar and Bangladesh Coastlines

Cyclone Mocha made landfall on the Bay of Bengal coastline in Western Myanmar, bringing wind speeds of over 200 km/h and causing damage to buildings and powerlines. The cyclone is expected to weaken as it moves inland, but there are concerns for the one million Rohingya refugees living in camps in Bangladesh, as well as those living in flood-prone areas in Myanmar. Aid agencies have launched emergency plans and disaster response teams are on standby. Climate change is believed to be contributing to the increasing strength of tropical cyclones in the region.
