Lahaina Residents Return Home, Assessing Wildfire Devastation

Parts of Lahaina, Maui, are open for re-entry after deadly wildfires, allowing residents and business owners to return to their homes. The Maui Emergency Management Agency is providing vehicle passes and personal protective equipment to those who apply. However, authorities caution that the area is still covered in ash and debris, and residents may encounter hazards. A wildfire emergency proclamation will also allow tourists to return to most of West Maui starting October 8, despite some residents expressing concerns and petitioning for a delay.
