California Implements Groundbreaking Gun and Ammo Tax to Support Safety Programs and Education Equality

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed two new laws that will ban people from carrying firearms in most public places and double the taxes on guns and ammunition sold in the state. The additional tax will fund security improvements at public schools and various gun violence prevention programs. California becomes the only state with a separate tax on guns and ammunition. However, these laws are expected to face legal challenges as they test the limits of the U.S. Supreme Court's new standard for interpreting the Second Amendment. The California Rifle and Pistol Association has already sued to block one of the new laws.
