Cassidy Sets Stage for Blanche’s Senate AG Confirmation
TL;DR
Sen. Bill Cassidy said he will vote to confirm Todd Blanche as attorney general, potentially giving Trump’s nominee the 50 votes needed for confirmation amid opposition from Collins and Murkowski and with McConnell absent. Blanche has drawn GOP concerns about DOJ independence, including the Epstein files and a controversial $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund. Cassidy framed the vote as selecting a capable, Senate-approved AG who can push back on the White House, while acknowledging he’s not entirely satisfied and could have future concerns.
