"Steve Scalise: A New Leader for House Republicans or More of the Same?"
TL;DR
Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, who secured the Republican nomination for speaker of the House, is seen by many GOP lawmakers as a continuation of his predecessor, Rep. Kevin McCarthy. Scalise shares McCarthy's policy vision on issues like spending and strategy, including the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. While there were some tensions between Scalise and McCarthy, Scalise's approach to government funding and other key issues aligns with the path the House has already been on. If elected speaker, Scalise would inherit the same narrow Republican majority and is expected to continue the House's impeachment inquiry into Biden.
