Supreme Court reopens Louisiana redistricting case for Black voter empowerment.

The Supreme Court has lifted its hold on a Louisiana case that could require the state to redraw congressional districts to increase Black voting power. The case had been on hold pending the decision in Alabama, where the court rejected a congressional redistricting map earlier this month. Lower courts had ruled that the maps in both states diluted Black voting power, violating the federal Voting Rights Act. The Louisiana case will now move forward in advance of next year’s congressional elections.
