The Impact of the Supreme Court's Alabama Ruling on Voting Rights and Gerrymandering.

The US Supreme Court has ordered Alabama to redraw its congressional map and add a second majority-Black district, in a 5-4 ruling that defended section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. The decision was authored by Chief Justice John Roberts, who had previously gutted a provision at the heart of the law. The ruling will allow Black voters in Alabama to have representation in more than one congressional district for the first time since Reconstruction. The court also affirmed the constitutionality of section 2 of the Voting Rights Act and signaled that the law can and should be robustly enforced.
