Angels Make Surprising Moves, Waive Key Players Including Lucas Giolito
TL;DR
The Los Angeles Angels have placed pitchers Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo López, as well as outfielders Hunter Renfroe and Randal Grichuk, on waivers in a "salary dump" move. Giolito and López were acquired by the Angels in a trade with the White Sox in July. Both players are free agents at the end of the season, and any team that claims them on waivers would have to pay their prorated salaries. The Angels, who have fallen out of playoff contention, have decided to trim salary for the remainder of the year.
