Alibaba's Cloud Unit Partners with Meta to Bring Llama AI Model to Chinese Companies

Alibaba's cloud computing division has become the first Chinese enterprise to support Meta's open-source AI model Llama, allowing Chinese business users to develop programs off the model. This move provides Alibaba with an alternative to pricey proprietary models sold by OpenAI and Google, while also furthering its own AI ambitions. The partnership with Meta could bring closer ties with China for the social media platform, which has been banned in the country for years. Llama2 will be free to use for companies with fewer than 700 million monthly active users, with larger programs requiring a license from Meta.
