Apple Adapts to EU Regulations with New iPhone Charger

Apple's upcoming iPhone, set to be unveiled on September 12, is expected to feature a USB-C charging port in compliance with a European Union law that requires phone manufacturers to adopt a common charging connection by December 2024. While Apple had previously argued against the EU rule, most of its newer products already use USB-C. The switch to USB-C will allow customers to use a single charger for iPads, Macs, and iPhones, and offer faster download speeds. The EU common-charger rule covers various portable electronics, including mobile phones, tablets, e-readers, and more, and is estimated to save consumers up to €250m a year on unnecessary charger purchases and reduce waste by 11,000 tonnes annually.
