Google AI Tool: Predicting Disease Risk through Genetic Mutations

Google's AI tool, AlphaMissense, developed by researchers at Google DeepMind, can predict the likelihood of genetic mutations causing harm. The tool focuses on "missense" mutations, where a single letter of the genetic code is affected. It was able to predict 89% of these mutations with 90% accuracy. The tool's database is publicly available to scientists and could aid in the diagnosis of rare diseases and the discovery of new disease-causing genes. The training of the tool involved analyzing DNA from humans and closely-related primates to recognize widespread genetic mutations.
