Google Embraces Passkeys, Leaving Passwords Behind

Google is making passkeys the default option for users across its accounts, encouraging the move away from traditional passwords. Passkeys use biometric data or a screen lock PIN to automatically log users into apps and websites, providing a more secure option. The technology generates a pair of keys, one stored on the cloud and one on the device, ensuring protection even if a server is compromised. Google aims to make passwords obsolete and other companies like Microsoft, Uber, and Apple are also adopting passkeys.
