Record-breaking May heatwave hits Shanghai.

Shanghai experienced its hottest May day in over 100 years with temperatures reaching 36.1 degrees Celsius, beating the previous May record of 35.7 degrees Celsius set in 1876, 1903, 1915 and 2018. Several southern Chinese provinces are expected to experience extreme heat over the next few days, with some areas reaching 42 degrees Celsius. China has also been experiencing torrential rains for weeks in some regions, leading to evacuations and flooding risks.
