China and Germany navigate tensions to push for cooperation.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang visited Germany to lobby business and government leaders on the importance of better bilateral cooperation, despite Germany's reevaluation of its relationship with China amid geopolitical tensions. Li emphasized the need for cooperation and development, and signed cooperation agreements with Chancellor Olaf Scholz in several key sectors. Germany and China traded nearly €300 billion worth of goods in 2022, and China was Germany's most important trading partner for the seventh consecutive year. However, Germany is taking steps to reduce economic dependence on China, prompted by the global supply chain disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and Germany's dependence on Russian energy.
