Sudan's warring parties, the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, have resumed peace negotiations in Saudi Arabia with the aim of ending a deadly war that has claimed over 9,000 lives and displaced 5.6 million people since April. The talks, facilitated by the United States and Saudi Arabia, are being held in partnership with the African Union and the East African bloc Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). The host country, Saudi Arabia, has called on negotiators to abide by previous agreements to protect civilians and implement a short-term ceasefire.
