Escalating Israeli-Hezbollah Attacks Leave Casualties on Both Sides

An Israeli strike in southern Lebanon killed an elderly woman and injured her husband, bringing the civilian death toll from recent Israeli fire in the region to around 20. Israel's military stated that the strikes were in retaliation for Hezbollah's attack the previous night, and that they had also targeted several launch sites. Hezbollah reported that one of its members was killed in another Israeli strike. The violence has largely been contained to the Israel-Lebanon border, but some Israeli shelling has reached deeper into Lebanese territory. Unwritten rules of engagement between Hezbollah and Israel seem to be guiding the exchanges of fire.
