Governor confirms multiple deaths in Burkina Faso attack on defence forces.

Unidentified armed men attacked a detachment of six soldiers and 34 civilian volunteers in northern Burkina Faso, killing 40 people and injuring 33 others. The region is near the border with Mali, an area overrun by fighters linked to al-Qaeda and ISIL. The provisional death toll was 34 auxiliaries from the Volunteers for the Defence of the Fatherland and six soldiers. The government had declared a "general mobilisation" to combat a string of bloody attacks blamed on fighters affiliated with al-Qaeda and the ISIL group.
