Journalists' Safety in Gaza: Israeli Military's Uncertainty

The Israeli military has informed international news organizations Reuters and Agence France Presse (AFP) that it cannot guarantee the safety of their journalists operating in the Gaza Strip, which has been under bombardment for almost three weeks. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that they are targeting Hamas military activity throughout Gaza, and that Hamas deliberately places military operations near journalists and civilians. The IDF warned that their high-intensity strikes could cause collateral damage to surrounding buildings, and that misfired Hamas rockets could also harm people in Gaza. Reuters and AFP expressed concern about the safety of journalists in Gaza, stating that the IDF's unwillingness to provide assurances threatens their ability to report on the conflict without fear of injury or death.
