Sudan conflict displaces thousands, prompts refugee influx.

The Red Cross has warned that the situation in Sudan is "untenable" for civilians left without food or water, and some hospitals have stopped working. People are making "desperate attempts" to flee the country after more than a week of fighting, with convoys leaving the capital Khartoum encountering robbery and looting. Numerous countries have evacuated their citizens, but many foreign students from Africa, Asia and the Middle East are still trapped in Khartoum. The UN has warned that up to 20,000 people - mostly women and children - have fled Sudan to seek safety in Chad, across the border from Darfur.
