Sudanese factions continue fighting despite failed truce and civilian protection agreement.

Despite signing a declaration of principles committing to protect civilians and allow humanitarian access, Sudan's warring army and Rapid Support Forces paramilitary failed to agree to a ceasefire, leading to air strikes and artillery pounding Khartoum. The conflict has uprooted hundreds of thousands of people and could pitch Sudan into a full-blown civil war. The UN says 200,000 people have fled Sudan for neighbouring states. Ceasefire talks are expected to continue, but both sides have accused each other of harming civilians and ignoring the population's humanitarian needs.
