Sudanese flee to Chad as violence escalates.

Thousands of Sudanese have fled to Chad to escape fighting in Darfur, while thousands more have left Khartoum as heavy gunfire erupted after the latest ceasefire broke down. Forces commanded by two previously allied leaders of Sudan's ruling council began a violent power struggle last weekend that has so far killed more than 330 people, tipping a nation reliant on food aid into what the United Nations calls a humanitarian catastrophe. The hostilities risk fanning regional tensions as Sudan borders seven countries and sits strategically between Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia and Africa's volatile Sahel region.
