Sudan's Ceasefire Extension Brings Temporary Relief Amid Humanitarian Concerns

The Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have agreed to extend the ceasefire for another 72 hours, mediated by the United States and Saudi Arabia. The existing truce, which was set to expire midnight Thursday, did not put a stop to the fighting but did allow people to flee to safer areas and for countries to carry out evacuations. The fighting broke out on April 15 between General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Sudan’s military ruler, and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, the leader of the RSF, for control of the country.
