Russian and Ukrainian forces are engaged in heavy fighting in Bakhmut, with conflicting reports on whether it's the start of Kyiv's much-anticipated spring counteroffensive. The head of the mercenary group Wagner, a key element of the Russian assault on Bakhmut, said the Ukrainian operation was "in full swing" and its forces were attacking his flanks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his forces would benefit from more time and equipment before launching the counteroffensive. The counterattack, whenever it is launched, will be closely watched in Western capitals.
