"Israel's Hostage Crisis: 126 Held Captive by Hamas"

The Israeli military has confirmed that 126 people, including Israeli and foreign nationals, are being held hostage by Hamas. The number of known hostages was revised down after bodies from the Hamas attack sites were found and identified. Among the hostages is Israeli journalist Oded Lifshitz, 83, who was taken from his home. Other hostages were taken from Israeli border communities or a wooded area near the border. The German government reported eight known cases of hostages being held by Hamas, and an American woman said five family members had been taken hostage. Voices for Hostages, an organization in Israel, has appealed for more information about missing family members. Concerns have been raised about EU citizens among the hostages and about 1,000 EU citizens trapped in Gaza. Israel said its forces found the bodies of some hostages during raids into Gaza, while Hamas claimed 22 hostages were killed in Israeli airstrikes.
