French soldiers charged over Channel migrant tragedies.

Five French soldiers have been charged with failing to help a boat carrying 27 migrants, mostly Iraqi Kurds, that sank while trying to cross the English Channel on 24 November 2021. The disaster is the worst of its kind on record. The soldiers are among nine people detained for questioning. The migrants had made 15 calls for help, which were ignored. The UK government has pledged to tackle small boat crossings of the English Channel after record numbers arrived by that route last year.
