German Police Seize Record-Breaking $2 Billion in Bitcoin in Piracy Crackdown

German police in Saxony seized nearly €2 billion worth of bitcoins in an investigation into suspected unauthorized commercial exploitation of copyrighted works and subsequent commercial money laundering. The bitcoins were allegedly bought with money earned from running a piracy website until the end of 2013. The suspects, aged 40 and 37, voluntarily transferred the bitcoins to the Federal Criminal Police Office's official wallet, and no decisions have been made regarding cashing in the bitcoins.
