Harvard's Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee, led by Rhodes Scholar Asmer Asrar Safi, has initiated a petition for a student referendum on whether the university should divest from Israel. Safi, an international student from Pakistan, has been involved in anti-Israel activism at Harvard and hopes to capitalize on previous resolutions calling for divestment. The petition gathered enough signatures within hours and, once verified, will trigger a divestment vote within the next three weeks. Harvard has previously expressed opposition to boycotting Israel and its academic institutions.
