Nationwide Blackouts in Nigeria as Power Grid Collapses

Nigeria experienced a nationwide blackout as the country's electricity distribution companies reported a "total system collapse." Power generation fell to zero before slowly starting to return, but it remained well below the daily average. Nigeria, a major oil and gas producer, already faces erratic power supply, leading households and businesses to rely on diesel and petrol generators. The blackout has raised concerns about increased costs for businesses and individuals, particularly after the removal of a fuel subsidy. Nigeria has 12,500 MW of installed capacity but produces only a quarter of that, prompting the government to explore measures to improve supply and spur economic growth.
