Russian cinemas defy boycott, screen Disney films.

Despite a boycott by Western movie studios over Russia's invasion of Ukraine, most major U.S. blockbusters are still widely available in Russian movie theaters, which are circumventing the de facto boycott by illegally screening high-quality pirated copies. Theaters showing them are some of the country's largest chains, and they present Hollywood films as previews to avoid fines under Russian laws that prohibit the practice. Russian authorities have done little to stop the screenings, and former president Dmitry Medvedev even encouraged Russians to illegally download Western films and series no longer released in the country.
