"Iceland Volcano Erupts, Spewing Lava and Pollution Toward Capital"

A volcanic eruption in southwest Iceland has created a nearly two-mile-long fissure spewing lava and causing significant air pollution. The eruption, the fifth since December, has led to evacuations in the coastal town of Grindavik and the temporary closure of the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa. Hundreds of small earthquakes preceded the eruption, and forecasters warn that sulfur dioxide emissions could reach the capital city of Reykjavik.
