Indigenous Woman Receives Goldman Prize for Halting Mining Giant.

Alessandra Korap Munduruku, a leader from Brazil's indigenous Munduruku community, has won the Goldman Prize for South and Central America for her successful fight against mining in the Amazon rainforest. Her campaign to protect the Munduruku territory saw her confronting mining giant Anglo American, resulting in the company withdrawing 27 research applications to mine inside indigenous territories. Her struggle gained visibility through social media and an open letter drafted with the help of the Coalition of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB) and pressure groups Amazon Watch and Greenpeace.
