Wildfires in Canada have already emitted twice the amount of smoke compared to the previous annual record, according to the EU's climate monitor. The fires, which have burned an area larger than Cuba or South Korea, have affected over 100 million people and disrupted flights and outdoor events. The Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (Cams) reported that the total carbon emissions from the fires this year have surpassed the previous record set in 2014. With the fire season still ongoing, emissions are expected to continue rising. Canada's rapid warming due to climate change has contributed to the intensity and frequency of these extreme weather events.
