Southeast Asia Heatwave: Vietnam and Laos Experience Record High Temperatures

Southeast Asia is experiencing a weeks-long heat wave, with temperature records being broken in Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. The heat has been compounded by intense smoggy seasons, causing pollution levels to spike. Scientists warn that heat waves will get worse as the impacts of the human-caused climate crisis accelerate. A 2022 study found that dangerous heat waves will occur between three and 10 times more often by the turn of the century, with days of "extremely dangerous heat" potentially doubling in the tropics, putting populations at risk.
