Peru's Health Emergency: Understanding the Guillain-Barré Syndrome Outbreak

Peru has declared a 90-day nationwide health emergency due to an "unusual increase" in cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). The emergency declaration includes measures to improve patient care, reinforce control on detections, and allocate funds for necessary resources. The country has reported 182 cases of GBS, with 147 discharged, 31 hospitalized, and four deaths. The declaration aims to address the lack of immunoglobulin and other resources needed to respond to the volume and complexity of cases.
