A surgeon at Mainz University Hospital in Germany was fired after getting a cleaner with no medical experience to assist in a toe amputation when no qualified assistant was available. The incident, which happened in 2020, didn't result in any complications to the patient. The hospital expressed regret and the CEO said the surgeon wrongly decided to go ahead with the routine procedure.
