Georgia woman alleges lab error caused unnecessary hysterectomy
An Atlanta-area woman says a mishandled endometrial tissue sample led to a misdiagnosis of aggressive uterine cancer and an unnecessary total hysterectomy at age 43, with removal of ovaries and lymph node biopsies; post-surgery pathology reportedly found no cancer. She filed a lawsuit in Clayton County against Kaiser Foundation Health Plan affiliates and involved lab personnel, seeking at least $10,000 and a jury trial. Kaiser says it is addressing the matter and has taken steps to prevent repeats.
