Nigerian Survivors: 14 Days on Ship's Rudder in Brazil

Four Nigerian stowaways survived 14 days on a cargo ship's rudder, drinking sea water to stay alive, before being rescued by Brazilian federal police in Vitoria. They had hoped to reach Europe but were shocked to find themselves in Brazil. Two of the men have returned to Nigeria, while the other two have applied for asylum. Economic hardship, political instability, and crime in Nigeria drove them to take the dangerous journey.
