"Activists Challenge Censorship and Advocate for Climate Action at Rare UAE Protest during COP28"

A small group of activists staged a rare protest during the COP28 climate summit in Dubai, demanding the release of pro-democracy activists imprisoned in the UAE and Egypt. The protest, which included about 25 participants, was described as historic as public dissent is not tolerated in the UAE. The activists held up pictures of imprisoned individuals, including Ahmed Mansoor and Mohamed al-Siddiq from the UAE, and Alaa Abdel Fattah from Egypt. While the UAE allows protests within the summit site under certain conditions, this demonstration took place in the "blue zone" area under UN control.
