Imprisoned Iranian Nobel laureate Mohammadi starts hunger strike

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi has begun a hunger strike in protest against limited medical care and the mandatory hijab for women in Iranian prisons. Mohammadi, a veteran rights activist, is currently held in Evin Prison and is refusing to wear a hijab. Her family expressed concern over her health and criticized the prison authorities for denying her medical treatment outside the prison. The Norwegian Nobel Committee and PEN International have both voiced support for Mohammadi and called on Iranian authorities to provide her with necessary medical assistance.
