Russian Forces in Ukraine Employ Torture and Sexual Violence, Experts Reveal

A team of international experts has reported that a significant number of prisoners held in makeshift detention centers in Russian-occupied southern Ukraine were subjected to torture and sexual violence. The Mobile Justice Team, working with Ukrainian war crimes prosecutors, analyzed 320 cases and witness accounts, finding that 43% of victims explicitly mentioned torture practices, including sexual violence, imposed by Russian guards. Ukrainian authorities are reviewing over 97,000 reports of war crimes and have filed charges against 220 suspects, with the possibility of high-level perpetrators being tried at the International Criminal Court. The Kremlin has consistently denied allegations of war crimes in Ukraine.
