The United Nations is investigating reports of at least 13 mass graves in Sudan's Darfur region, believed to contain civilians from the ethnic Masalit tribe who were killed in attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied Arab militias. The human rights violations, if verified, may constitute war crimes. Ethnic-related killings have intensified since mid-April, with the Masalit tribe and other non-Arab communities being targeted. Concerns have been raised that these killings echo the Darfur genocide of the early 2000s. This is the second discovery of mass graves this year, and the United States has imposed sanctions on the RSF's deputy leader for human rights violations.
