Sudanese refugees flee to Chad amidst ethnic clashes and hunger.

Tens of thousands of refugees from South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Eritrea have fled the fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in the Khartoum area, creating new humanitarian challenges. The UNHCR is particularly concerned about the situation in the Darfur region, where fears are deepening of a revival of ethnic tensions. The overall death toll in the conflict has risen to at least 512, and human rights abuses against people on the move have been rife. The security situation has forced UNHCR to temporarily pause most of its aid operations in Khartoum, the Darfurs, and North Kordofan, where it has become too dangerous to operate.
